Pen for Lunch
What is it: We've all loved and lost our Bic pens. But now, your average ballpoint pen can become your utensils for lunch. Thanks to Zo-loft design, you can carry around these little cutlery pen tops and bust them out instead of using disposable sporks or something.
How it works: It's not very complicated. Instead of a normal pen cap that's just a pen cap, Din-ink offers you a spoon, a fork, or a knife. And on top of that, they're also 100% biodegradable, non toxic, and hygienic. Fasioned from non-GM corn and potato stratch, they're heat resistent up to 105 degrees C (but any hotter than that, you'll probably melt them and burn your tongue). Now you've got a good excuse for biting your pen.
Where to get it: Tears...still in concept design phase. Until then, try SpudWare - they're not pens but they're utensils made from potatoes. You can get that stuff from the whole sale distributor at Excellent Packaging & Suppy (Greg and Steve are very kind with samples).
In the projects that 100% Zomer developped the past years there has always been a design in development project included. 100% Zomer is always looking for new opportunities in this field. Recently she was asked to coach some artists who want to bring their special (recycled) products to the market. 100% Zomer also actively approached some design businesses to see whether she can play a role in their strategy development and or business implementation. There are some interesting examples such as the recycle design mall in Rotterdam and more cradle to cradle design. 100%zomer always visits the final presentations of the Eindhovense design academy.

The Solstice on the Park, a 26-storey residential tower in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, to be completed in September 2010, is literally shaped by solar access. Its surface is designed to precisely the optimum angle for 41.5 degrees north (Chicago), which allows the sun to enter the apartments during winter for passive solar warming and keeps it out during the summer to reduce air-conditioning usage. The saw-tooth design creates balconies that block direct midday sun, decreasing the need for power-hungry air conditioning. In winter, when the sun is lower, rays pass through the windows to warm the interior. Quote from the architects: “By making latitude into a visible feature for the façade and its reason-to-be, the project challenges the current notion of pure iconography and symbolism in tall buildings."
